The Chartway Group is actively pursuing green innovations, now in phase 3 of installing solar PV panels on a portion of their 120 houses in Whitsable, alongside implementing sustainable urban drainage systems. Their goal is to establish a self-sustaining site powered by renewable energy and eco-friendly infrastructure.

Ubbink is proud to contribute to this sustainability initiative via our partners at Solen Energy based in Widnes. Solar panels have been strategically integrated, utilising both on-roof and in-roof systems, alongside our lead replacement, Ubiflex standard for watertight connections across the majority of the site.

The Project:

Regional Managers Gary and Paul recently visited a solar installation site to engage in discussions with Paul from EG Solar, who were the team responsible for fitting the lead free Ubiflex flashing. Their primary objective was to gather insights on EG Solar's experience with Ubiflex and other lead alternatives when integrated with Solar.

Positive Feedback:

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive. With several key benefits of Ubiflex being highlighted, including its swift installation process, superior quality, and ease of use. These attributes not only expedited the installation timeline but also ensured a high standard of workmanship.

Introducing Ubiflex Finio:

During the site visit, Ubbink introduced EG Solar to the latest addition to the Ubiflex product line – Ubiflex Finio. This innovative non-lead flashing solution had significant interest from the EG Solar team and Solen Energy. They were particularly intrigued by its fully adhesive backing, which eliminates the need for sealants during installation.

Demonstration and Qualities:

To further illustrate the capabilities of Ubiflex Finio, Gary and Paul provided a comprehensive demonstration. They emphasised its superior qualities, including its compatibility with various roofing materials and the ease with which it can be installed, adding a further opinion when flashing Solar in roof systems, we look forward to collaborating more in the future.

Features and Benefits of using Ubiflex Standard:

Ubiflex is a non-lead waterproof flashing material which can be used in most applications where lead is traditionally used to provide a weatherproof junction at features such as changes of direction and materials. With no lead, they have no scrap value and are therefore an ideal way to combat the perennial problem of lead theft from roofs.

  • Up to 50% quicker to install than lead
  • Up to 80% lighter than lead
